The short version
- 26 minutes of gameplay, captured entirely on a standard PlayStation 5.
- Confirmed live character switching between Jason and Lucia, including within shared scenes.
- Confirmed prone crawling, body looting and carrying, zip ties and human shields.
- Confirmed the two-rifle, two-pistol carry limit with vehicle trunk storage.
- Confirmed tiered police behaviour with non-lethal responses at low wanted levels.
For thirty-three months, everything anyone knew about how Grand Theft Auto VI plays was inferred from two trailers cut to music. On August 27, 2026, Rockstar released 26 minutes of gameplay, and the inference era ended.
This is the complete list of what the presentation actually established, separated from what commentators subsequently claimed it established.
Confirmed by the footage
- Character switching in shared scenes. Jason and Lucia can be swapped between mid-encounter, not only between missions.
- Prone movement. Full flat crawling, used for approach and cover.
- Body persistence. Corpses can be looted for items and physically carried and hidden.
- Zip ties. NPCs can be restrained as an alternative to killing them.
- Human shields. Shown in a firefight context.
- Weapon carry limit. Two rifles and two pistols on the character; the rest in a vehicle.
- Tiered police response. Non-lethal attempts and a surrender option at low wanted levels.
- Gas station functionality. Refuelling, and apparently repair.
- Vehicle damage. Substantially deeper deformation, with a slow-motion beat on heavy impacts.
- Character abilities. Jason's weak-point slow motion and Lucia's single-shot slow motion.
The trap house sequence
The centrepiece was a raid on a trap house, played as a pair.
What it demonstrates
Both characters present. Both credible. Control moving between them mid-encounter.
It is the clearest picture yet of what dual-protagonist design means, and our structure analysis covers the cost of building it.
It is a stealth game hiding inside a GTA
Prone movement, plus zip ties, plus body carrying.
Put together, that is the first non-lethal path the series has had. Our non-lethal page works through whether it holds up.
What it deliberately did not show
The omissions are as informative as the footage.
Absent from 26 minutes
None of these appeared at all.
- Any property system
- Business management
- Character customisation
- The economy
- A map screen
- Mission structure above one encounter
- Progression
Resist reading absence as absence
A 26-minute demo four months out shows the systems that demo well in 26 minutes.
That is a scheduling decision, not a feature list.
But do not assume the opposite either
It is equally wrong to assume every unshown feature exists.
A lot of post-presentation coverage did exactly that, and our activities list keeps the confirmed set separate.
