What is actually confirmed
Three facts, each sourced, are the entire official record on this topic:
- Rockstar owns the community-server experts. In August 2023 Rockstar brought Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM, officially into the studio. FiveM is the framework behind GTA V's dedicated, customised roleplay servers, the closest thing Grand Theft Auto has ever had to player hosting. The announcement is on Rockstar's own Newswire.
- Rockstar publicly supports roleplay. The same Newswire post commits to supporting the roleplay community rather than shutting it down, a reversal of years of legal pressure on multiplayer mods.
- GTA 6's online mode is unannounced. No server model, no hosting product, no creator program, no dates. Our servers and roleplay guide covers what that silence does and does not mean.
What hosting could look like, labelled as analysis
This section is our reading of the signals, not an announcement. Treat it the way this site treats every unconfirmed claim: as something that can be wrong.
GTA Online on the previous game never offered player-hosted dedicated servers; sessions were peer grouped and Rockstar controlled the rules. FiveM existed precisely to fill that gap, and its servers, with custom maps, jobs, economies and thousands of concurrent roleplayers, became some of the biggest live audiences on Twitch. Rockstar buying that team two years before launch is the clearest investment signal the company has ever made in community-run servers.
If GTA 6 follows that path, expect the FiveM shape rather than the Minecraft shape: a sanctioned framework where communities stand up customised servers under Rockstar's rules, likely after the online mode ships rather than at launch. Rockstar has said nothing about third party hosting companies, pricing, or self-hosting, and neither should anyone selling to you.
What would it cost? Nobody can say for GTA 6, but the platform Rockstar bought already has a public price list: our FiveM server cost breakdown documents what real communities pay today, from the free 48-slot tier to $400-a-month operations. And the modding policy shows exactly where Rockstar draws the line between tolerated creativity and protected online revenue.
The scam warning that already matters
Nobody can sell you a GTA 6 server in 2026
Hosting companies are already taking pre-orders for GTA 6 server slots. Every one of them is selling access to a product that does not exist, priced against specifications nobody has. Until Rockstar announces a server model, any GTA 6 hosting purchase is a donation with a receipt. The same caution as our pre-order scam guide applies: pay nobody for unannounced things.
What this site will do
GTA6.free intends to be part of the hosting story from the first day it exists: server guides, a server directory for the community, and coverage of every rule Rockstar publishes. The moment hosting is announced, this page becomes the tracking page, with dates and sources.
Until then it changes only when the official record changes. Sign in to join the discussion below, and tell us what you would want from a community server, since that conversation is the part we can start early.
Frequently asked questions
Can I host my own GTA 6 server?
Not yet. Rockstar has not announced server hosting, dedicated servers or a creator program for GTA 6, and no company can legitimately sell GTA 6 server hosting today.
Will GTA 6 support FiveM style servers?
Unannounced, but Rockstar acquired Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM, in August 2023 and has publicly committed to supporting the roleplay community. That is a strong signal, not a promise.
Should I pre-order GTA 6 server hosting?
No. Anything sold as GTA 6 hosting before Rockstar announces a server model is a payment for an unannounced product with no specifications. Treat it like any other pre-order scam.
How much will a GTA 6 server cost?
Unknown, because no server model exists. The only honest benchmark is FiveM, the platform Rockstar owns: free entry at 48 player slots, licensing from $15 a month at scale, and $40 to $400 monthly budgets for established roleplay communities.
When will we know more?
Rockstar has not announced its online mode. This page is updated the day any official server or hosting information is published, with sources.
