The short version
- Prone crawling is new to the mainline series.
- Bodies persist, can be looted, and can be carried and hidden.
- Zip ties allow NPCs to be restrained instead of killed.
- Human shields are confirmed as a combat option.
GTA 6 has confirmed stealth mechanics: prone movement and crawling, zip-tie restraint, human shields, and bodies you can loot, carry and hide. Grand Theft Auto has always had stealth missions and never had a stealth system. The difference is that a system lets you choose stealth; a mission makes you use it.
GTA VI, on the evidence of the Extended Look, has the system.
The confirmed verb list
- Prone. Fully flat, and you can crawl while prone - New to the series.
- Body carrying. Corpses can be picked up and moved, which implies they can be found.
- Body looting. Bodies can be searched for items.
- Zip ties. NPCs can be restrained rather than killed.
- Human shields. A grabbed NPC can be used defensively.
Why body persistence is the load-bearing feature
Every mechanic on that list rests on one thing. A body has to still exist after it stops moving.
What changed from GTA V
In GTA V, bodies were props that despawned. In GTA VI they can be searched, carried and hidden.
That is the whole difference.
Why it makes stealth possible
If a body vanishes there is nothing to hide and no evidence to manage.
If it stays where it fell, every kill is a problem you made for yourself. That is the moment moving quietly starts being worth it.
Zip ties and the non-lethal path
Restraint options in open-world games are usually a gesture. Technically there, mechanically pointless, because nothing rewards them.
What would make these real
Three things we cannot see yet.
- Whether restrained NPCs stay restrained
- Whether the game separates a no-kill run from a normal one
- Whether the wanted system responds differently
One hint that it might
The tiered police system points that way. Our wanted system guide has the detail.
Non-lethal arrest at two stars only makes sense in a game that tracks the difference between a robbery and a massacre.
