Lucia Caminos is the first female protagonist in a mainline Grand Theft Auto since the 1997 original, and the first with a voiced, central role. It is easy to treat that as a press release fact. It is more interesting as a craft problem.
Grand Theft Auto's satire has always worked by taking a specific male fantasy - The gangster, the hustler, the survivalist - And following it to its stupid conclusion. Changing the protagonist's gender changes which fantasies are on the table.
What the series has been satirising
Every mainline GTA has aimed at a genre. Every one of those genres has a male centre.

A woman leaving prison in Florida in 2026 walks into probation, employment, custody and healthcare. A male lead in this series has never had to be read against those systems.
Whether Rockstar uses it is unknown

It is now possible, which it was not before. That is the whole of the point.
