The short version

  • Rockstar's PlayStation Store FAQ states GTA VI is a single-player experience.
  • No online mode, co-op or multiplayer functionality is available on November 19, 2026.
  • What you buy is the Jason and Lucia campaign.
  • This matches Rockstar's pattern for its last two major launches.

It is worth stating without hedging, because a surprising number of people buying this game do not know it: there is no multiplayer in Grand Theft Auto VI at launch.

This is not an inference from silence. Rockstar's own storefront FAQ describes the game as a single-player experience.

What is included on November 19

  • The full single-player campaign starring Jason and Lucia
  • The open world of Leonida and its six regions
  • All confirmed side activities, vehicles and systems
  • Ultimate Edition content, if purchased
  • The Vintage Vice City Pack, for pre-orders placed before November 20

What is not included

  • Any online or multiplayer mode
  • Co-op
  • Any announced post-launch content roadmap
  • A PC version

Why this is normal

Rockstar has now done exactly this twice, with its two biggest releases.

The last two Rockstar launches

Single-player first, online later. Both times.

GameShippedOnline arrived
GTA VSeptember 2013Two weeks later, free update
Red Dead Redemption 2October 2018One month later, beta
GTA VINovember 19, 2026Not announced

A third time is the expected behaviour

Not a deviation, and not a sign that something went wrong.

It is the pattern.

What it means practically

Nothing about launch day is time-sensitive. There is no economy to get into early, no seasonal content, no competitive ladder, no server population to beat. If you start on the following weekend, you lose nothing.

It also means the value proposition is unusually clear for a modern $80 release: you are buying a finished story, not a platform. Our completion planner projects how long that story takes at your own play rate.

Frequently asked questions

Not at launch. Rockstar states that Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.

Is there co-op in GTA 6?

No co-op has been announced.

Do I need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass to play GTA 6?

Rockstar has not detailed online requirements, but a single-player game would not normally require a paid online subscription.

Will multiplayer be added later?

Rockstar has not announced an online mode, though its history with GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 makes one likely.
